The Sugar Icon of France
La Perruche pure cane sugar won a gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris, and it has been charming people across the globe ever since. Sourced from the French island of Réunion east of Madagascar, this quality sugar has been consumed in the form of rough cut cubes for generations. La Perruche comes in white pure cane sugar as well as brown sugar cubes, the latter possessing delightful notes of honey and caramel. Drop one or two in your next cup of French coffee or tea, and smile at the natural sweetness.
Local Resources
It is amazing what a few lumps of brown sugar can do for a local economy. La Perruche relies on the supply generated by 3,000 cane farms on the island. The large enterprise employs more than 18,000 people in Réunion, directly and indirectly. It’s not just the sugar industry, but the local rum industry as well that benefits from their molasses. What remains of the plant after being processed, a.k.a. bagasse, is used for energy, saving an estimated 145,000 tons of carbon per year. Every time you sweeten a drink or a baking recipe with La Perruche white cane sugar or brown sugar cubes, you are fueling life on this French island!
