Italian Balsamic Dressings and Condiments
The key ingredient that gives Italian balsamic dressing its characteristic complexity and sweet–tangy flavor is balsamic vinegar. Produced in Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy for centuries, balsamic vinegar was originally given as a gift to significant figures such as Popes and Royals, and while authentic balsamic is still a premium commodity, there are now other versions available that include balsamic dressings and condiments. Made by combining balsamic with extra virgin olive oil and other fruit vinegars, balsamic condiments will bring salads and desserts to life with sweet and tangy flavor.
What kinds of balsamic condiments can I buy?
At Supermarket Italy, we feature a selection of the best balsamic glazes and condiments, including Vincotto, which is made from the cooked must of Negroamaro and Malvasia grapes. It gets its rich sweet and sour flavor from being aged in oak barrels for four years. Premium brands such as Fini Aceto and Fondo Montebello create sweet, savory balsamic condiments that can be used over sharp cheeses and fruits. For a classic salad dressing, try Partanna Vinaigrettes over grilled vegetables and other greens. Along with premium balsamic condiments imported from Italy, Supermarket Italy also carries a selection of products from the Napa Valley such as Verjus, a tart juice pressed from unripe grapes.
What can I use balsamic condiment for?
The rich and complex flavor of a balsamic condiment makes it excellent as a dressing or marinade for meats and vegetables. The combination of balsamic with grated parmesan cheese, herbs, and spices makes a simple yet flavorful balsamic vinaigrette. Add a luxe sweetness to desserts such as ice cream and pastries or fresh fruit and cheeses on a charcuterie board.
