Description
Nutmeg is native to the Banda Islands, a part of Indonesia. It is the pit of the plum-like fruit of an evergreen tree, and was at the heart of the great spice wars from the 16th to 18th centuries. Today, the highest quality nutmeg comes from the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea. Though traditionally used as a baking spice, nutmeg can be used in savory dishes as well. Wonderfully versatile, nutmeg can be mixed into everything from mulled cider to tortellini filling.
