Bring the flavors of Southern Italy to your kitchen with this delicious Baked Gnocchi alla Sorrentina! Originating from Sorrento, near Naples, this traditional Italian dish combines soft potato gnocchi, rich tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and fresh basil.
Ingredients
-
1 lb Sanniti Potato Gnocchi
-
2 cups Italian tomato passata
8 oz fresh mozzarella, drained and diced
-
½ cup freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano
-
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
6–8 fresh basil leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Extra fresh basil for garnish
Directions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in the tomato passata, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 10–15 minutes. Stir in fresh basil.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions, usually 2–3 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Drain gently.
Toss the cooked gnocchi with the tomato sauce until evenly coated.
Transfer half of the gnocchi to a baking dish. Add half of the mozzarella and Parmigiano Reggiano. Repeat with the remaining gnocchi and cheese.
Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the mozzarella is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
Remove from the oven, let rest for a few minutes, and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm and enjoy!
