Wafer Cookies from the Alps
Alfons Loacker began charming the locals with his wafer cookies when he opened his pastry shop in Bolzano, Italy, in 1925. His mission to bring joy to people with Italian sweets continues in the heart of the Alps in Northern Italy to this day. Loacker relies on Italian hazelnut farms in Tuscany, as well as cocoa farms in South America and Africa for the best raw ingredients to make their sweet snacks.
A Commitment to Traceability and Sustainability
Having been making wafer cookies for nearly 100 years, Loacker is dedicated to ensuring that future generations can keep enjoying delicious Italian sweets. That’s why the company is committed to traceability and sustainability in production, packaging and distribution. It starts with ensuring fair working and living conditions for cocoa and vanilla farmers in small villages in Madagascar, Ecuador and the Ivory Coast. Once the raw materials arrive in Italy, they are processed in bakeries that are run entirely on green energy. In 2021, Loacker also reduced the plastic in their packaging by 15%, and aims to transport 50% of their sweet snacks by vehicles powered by natural gas by the end of the year.
Types of Loacker Wafer Cookies
Loacker uses 100% Italian hazelnuts for their chocolate wafers, tiramisu wafers, and numerous other flavors. At Supermarket Italy, you’ll find Loacker wafers in their traditional size, as well as small wafer cubes. These Italian sweets range in flavor from classic, like vanilla and dark chocolate wafers, to newer flavors like matcha green tea. Take these Italian snacks to work or school, or enjoy them at home with a hot cup of Italian espresso. Even use them as decoration accents for cakes and cupcakes!
