The Beginning of Mestemacher Bread
In 1871, German shoemaker Johann Heinrich Mestemacher opened a bakery for his 20-year-old son Wilhelm, a master baker. After working decades as the town baker in Gütersloh, Wilhelm launched a store specifically for producing pumpernickel, a dark rye bread. In 1910, making Vollkornbrot (German-style whole grain bread) became his main mission. And thanks to a new pasteurization method, this bread was granted a much longer shelf life than other types, which is why we at Supermarket Italy are able to sell it to you today!
Rye Bread: A Healthier Choice
Rye bread is healthier than white bread because it is high fiber, nutrient-rich, and made with whole grains, making it a better choice for maintaining healthy weight and blood sugar. It also contains less gluten, which makes it denser; that combined with its high fiber content make rye bread more filling. Its dark color and earthy taste also make it stand out from other varieties. Mestemacher’s long-lasting, wholemeal and pumpernickel breads are all about helping you achieve a more natural lifestyle.
A Company Focused on Gender Equality
Mestemacher has been noticed for its excellence, not just as a food brand but as an ethical company. The German brand is committed to gender equality in the workplace, so when you buy Mestemacher dark rye bread, you know you are helping achieve a more just and balanced society.
