Belgium is a European nation neighboring Holland, France, and Germany, which have all influenced the country’s cuisine. It is sometimes quipped that Belgian food has the portion sizes of Germany with the refined techniques of the French. The country is well known for its fries, waffles, beer, and of course Belgian chocolate, which is seen as an art form in itself.  

What Belgian dishes can I make?

For a traditional Belgian dinner, stewed dishes like carbonnade beef made with dark beer are a way to taste multiple culinary traditions at once. On the lighter side, moules frites, or mussels with fries, is a classic Belgian pairing of steamed shellfish in a succulent broth with fries for dipping.
