The Beloved St Michel Brand

For more than 110 years, St Michel has crafted classic French pastries, notably madeleines and butter cookies. In 1905 the company started by producing round biscuits known as galettes and shortly after expanded to include the soft, shell-shaped French madeleines. All pastries from St. Michel are guaranteed to be made in France using wheat flour, cage free eggs, and zero palm oil.    

Two Iconic Pastries: The St Michel Galette and the French Madeleine 

Now iconic in France, St Michel brand butter cookies and pastries have had since 1905 to build their amazing reputation. Pastry chef Joseph Grellier created a thin butter cookie imprinted with the Archangel Michael, for whom there was once a monastery in the village, and began to serve these “St Michel Galettes” to his friends and family. His wife offered to sell the cookies to tourists taking in the sea air, and their popularity exploded. Once the company took off, St Michel added another classic pastry, the French Madeleine, to its repertoire, and further cemented the brand’s status as an emblem of beautiful French baking. Though the company has grown, the original butter cookie and Madeleine recipes are used to this very day, and the products remain instantly recognizable.
