Ingredients
-
2 ½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour
-
¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
1 pinch of salt
1 stick (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 ½ cups (400g) Nutella (softened slightly in the microwave)
For the pastry dough
For the filling
Directions
Prepare the pastry dough
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cold, cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix until the dough starts to come together.
Knead the dough gently on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch tart pan or pie dish.
Roll out the dough
Reserve about â…“ of the dough for the lattice topping. Roll out the remaining dough to fit your tart pan, pressing it gently into the edges. Trim any excess dough.
Add the Nutella filling
Spread the softened Nutella evenly over the pastry base, leaving a slight border around the edges.
Make the lattice topping
Roll out the reserved dough and cut it into thin strips. Arrange the strips over the Nutella in a crisscross pattern to form a lattice.
Bake the crostata
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before slicing.
Serve and enjoy
Slice and serve at room temperature. You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra indulgence!
Recipe Note
Tips for the Perfect Nutella Crostata
If the dough is too sticky to work with, chill it longer before rolling.
Slightly warming the Nutella makes it easier to spread evenly.
For a fancier finish, brush the lattice strips with a beaten egg before baking to give them a glossy, golden appearance.
