What are macaroni noodles, really?
Macaroni pasta are narrow tube noodles originating from Italy made with durum wheat, usually without egg. It is normally cut in short lengths; if cut in lengths with a curve it is known as elbow macaroni. In North America, macaroni most often comes in a tiny elbow shape—the kind any kid or adult can easily identify in their mac and cheese. In Italy, however, maccheroni actually refers to smooth, tubular pasta corta (short-length pasta) that is larger than typical American macaroni.
What can I make with Italian macaroni noodles?
This type of short Italian pasta is extremely versatile. Pair it with cream sauce, tomato sauce, meat sauce, or pesto! And of course, your family's own mac and cheese recipe.
