Macaroni pasta are narrow tube noodles originating from Italy made with durum wheat, usually without egg. It is normally cut in short lengths; if cut in lengths with a curve it is known as elbow macaroni. In North America, macaroni most often comes in a tiny elbow shape—the kind any kid or adult can easily identify in their mac and cheese. In Italy, however, maccheroni actually refers to smooth, tubular pasta corta (short-length pasta) that is larger than typical American macaroni.
