Callipo Tuna was founded in 1913 by Giacinto Callipo in Calabria, Italy. For more than 100 years, they have been considered one of the best canned tuna brands in the country. In 1926, Callipo was even named as the official supplier to the Royal Household, and in 2014, Italy issued a commemorative stamp celebrating the Italian tuna brand. (The € 0,80 stamp was part of the Excellence of the Productive and Economic System postage series.) Callipo attributes their success to their guiding principle that quality food is “a way of being.”
Types of Callipo Tuna
Callipo only uses the best quality Yellowfin Tuna. All of their canned tuna and jars of tuna fillets are quality checked, cooked, and packaged in their facility in Calabria. The brand packs most of their tuna fish in olive oil, and alongside their regular flavor, offers delicious flavor infusions like chili pepper and rosemary. The brand also offers grated tuna roe, which can be used as a condiment for pasta, pizza, and other Italian dishes for a kick of real tuna flavor.
How to Eat Callipo Tuna
Callipo tuna fillets are tasty when eaten directly out of the jar or can, but they can also make a delightful part of various recipes. Try Calabria’s best canned tuna in salad, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and appetizers!
